Sachs Fellow
The Sachs Fellowship brings leading voices in education and equity into deeper partnership with the Sachs community. Over a multi-year term, the Fellow contributes written work, engages with Sachs Scholars and alumni, and serves as a thought partner in the Foundation’s continued growth and national positioning. At a time when conversations about race, history, and educatio remain deeply contested, Sachs continues to invest in bold storytelling and critical inquiry, bringing in voices who help shape a more honest and expansive understanding of our world. The Fellowship reflects that same longstanding commitment.
Clint Smith, Inaugural Sachs Fellow
In 2026, Sachs welcomed Clint Smith as its inaugural Sachs Fellow. Clint is the author of the #1 New York Times bestselling book How the Word Is Passed: A Reckoning with the History of Slavery Across America, a former high school teacher, and a staff writer at The Atlantic. He holds a Ph.D. in Education from Harvard University. His writing sits at the intersection of history, education, and storytelling, and challenges us to think deeply about the systems that persist and shape opportunity, particularly for Black students. We're honored to welcome him into the Sachs community.
